Prompt Tree Challenge!

What we are doing here is a Prompt Tree Challenge. Any fandom is welcome, or for that matter things that aren't usually considered fandoms (historical figures, mythology, whatever you want). Gen and smut of any type are both welcome. eta: Fanart is okay, too - but if you post art, please link to it instead of posting it directly in the comments, and use appropriate warnings.

To explain how this works, I'm just going to use a really popular fandom with easily recognizable characters.

First, you leave a top-level comment with the name of a character you'd like people to write about. (For clarity, please put the series the character is from in parenthesis, since occasionally names do repeat. Abbreviations are fine, since presumably interested parties will recognize them.)

Edward Elric (FMA)

People interested in that character reply to that comment with a character (or more than one character) they want to pair the first character up with (in either a gen or porny context).

(To help people find the pairings they're interested in reading/writing about, please change the subject line of the comment at this point to the pairing in question - for instance, if you responded to Edward Elric with Roy Mustang, make your subject line Edward Elric/Roy Mustang.)

People who wish to leave a specific prompt at this point can leave one either for a pairing, or for the top level character. Examples:

Edward Elric
Roy Mustang
clash of tempers

OR:

Edward Elric
what was sacrificed

People can leave fic at any point in this tree - they can write random fic for the top-level single character, random fic for any of the character pairings, or fic in response to one of the prompts.

Points to remember:

Make sure if you're responding to a pairing by itself that you leave your fic as a reply to the pairing; if you're responding to a specific prompt, leave your comment as a response to the prompt. Also remember, in the above example, if you want to leave a prompt for Roy Mustang by himself or pair him with a different character, start a new comment tree.

As I mentioned, please use the subject lines to clarify the pairing!

Please add "FIC" to the subject line if you are adding fic, so that people can easily distinguish between fic and prompts! Ex: "FIC: Ed/Roy (FMA)"

ALSO, I'm going to ask that if you're writing porn, please add "[MA]" to the subject line for your comment fic, so that people who don't want to read smut can skip it. Ex: "FIC: Ed/Roy (FMA) [MA]". (HOWEVER, this is forwarning to everyone: I am sure that some of us are going to forget about the porn warning on occasion, so you may well stumble across something that squicks you. If this is a truly horrible thought, you may want to skip this challenge. XD;)

Yes, you are free to respond to your own characters/pairings/prompts with a pairing/prompt/fic, if you want. And yes, multiple people can respond to the same characters/pairings/prompts.

I will leave some prompts to start with so everyone can look and see what I'm on about! If you are still confused after that, ask any questions here.

"Um, I'm not even sure I CAN Awaken, you know," Clarice said, trying to squirm away from the lance-sharp tendrils headed for her thighs. "I probably don't have a high enough concentration of yokai blood, and - what? What is it?" Clarice gulped. "Um. A-are you going to feed me to your monster now?"

"That's not just any monster. That's my man, and I can't give him just any girl to play with," intoned the Awakened One.

Well, she didn't intone so much as chirp, and her eyes were wide and her fingers were tapping against her chin thoughtfully and all in all she didn't look too different from Miata during a calm spell, but she was an Awakened Being and she was probably going to kill Clarice since Clarice couldn't do anything useful for her, not that Clarice wanted to do anything useful for her, but it was kind of frustrating, never being able to do anything useful for anyone, at all.

The point was, Clarice was scared. Very, very scared, of this capricious, child-like creature who either wanted to cut off her legs or kill her or not kill her because she wasn't good enough or Clarice didn't know, and that was perhaps scariest of all.

Then the girl-child-demon-thing let out a merry laugh, and clapped her hands together in delight. "Oh, don't you look simply terrified!" A piece of her hair snaked down and gave Clarice a - was that an affectionate pat? - on the shoulder. "I haven't seen one of you looking this scared since years ago, when they built you so much flimsier." The Awakened One sighed, still smiling. "It's obvious that if you could Awaken at this point, you would, so I really don't have a single reason in the world to keep you here."

"Are you...letting me go?"

Now the Awakened One was clasping her sides as she tittered. It was very, very unsettling, to know your life was in the hands of a monster who lacked a shred of human emotion, but possessed an incredible, improbable surfeit of giggles.

"I'm not really a threat to you, you know, it's not like anybody will believe I encountered an Awakened Being and escaped even if I tried to tell them, and I probably don't taste too good, so - "

Tears were forming in the corners of the Awakened One's eyes. Clarice didn't know tentacle monsters had tear ducts left. After all, what purpose could they possibly serve?

Besides, well, this.

"You silly child, of course I'm not going to let you go. I would usually kill you: true, I don't want to give Dauf any mistaken ideas about our standards - he's not very bright, you must understand - but I'm sure a cute little fighter like you would go down just splendidly, should I sample you myself."

Go down...her throat. The Awakened One was talking about eating her. Eating her and, and enjoying every bite. Clarice felt her eyes bulge big with terror, and, though pinned from every angle, her body somehow managed to start trembling. Violently.

Only to freeze in bewilderment when she realized the creature had basically just implied that that wasn't what she was about to do.

The creature, who had been drinking in all of Clarice's reactions happily, laughed a little more.

"That's the thing about you, Clarice. You really hold no worth whatsoever, but you're just so funny! I won't get bored with you around."

Clarice blinked uncertainly. "You're keeping me alive because I'm funny?"

"Well, and you should work as bait to draw that Miata girl here. She's awfully attached to you, you know, and it's a waste to get so scared of me when you've spent your days and nights in the company of that one. I can't wait to meet her." The creature's eyes glinted hungrily. "Anyway, make yourself at home!" The Awakened One stretched, and showed no sign of letting Clarice down. "I'm Riful, it's a pleasure."

Riful turned, and skipped off.

Clarice stayed attached to the wall.

"Clarice," she said, watching Riful's back.

adsjslkj I don't even really know what to say to this besides that I love it, but. I love how much personality comes through in your writing, and your Riful is so cute and devious and perfect!

IT DOESN'T MAKE A LOT OF SENSE IN A LOT OF PARTS IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT TOO HARD but sdkfjksdfsdf :D I'm so happy you enjoyed it! :D I put the pairing in and then I decided I had to attempt it because Riful is really, really funny, and I like to pair her with other funny characters (Galatea, Helen...Clarice, apparently) because it's...funny. Yes.
